Our Philosophy Victoria Wood Studio is a unique company that is dualistic in its undertakings. On the one hand, our work has won awards for its “artistic approach”, while on the other hand our customers value the technical proficiency evident both in our build and installation. Our work often marries different design styles to come up with structures that complement their natural setting and reflect the desires and values of those who live within. Yet the hand of the designer is evident throughout. Each piece poses unique challenges as she does not design around the build but rather she builds around the design. She uses mortise and tenon joinery, especially on gate construction for strength, stability and beauty. If there is one thing that unites all our work it is the beauty of the cedar that we are so lucky to have on Vancouver Island. All our wood is FSC certified meaning that the logging practices this company adheres to are the highest in the world. We have the greatest respect for the wood and honor it by creating pieces that are built to last. We carefully chose and apply finishes to ensure the beauty of the grain is utilized to full affect and this coupled with our installation methods ensure its longevity. Each piece we create draws the eye with its unique dimensions and the play of light and shadow. They invite you to stop, pause and reflect. They often serve as invitations to enter a more private space, a courtyard, a garden or a home.
